Three Fun Apps for Learning Your ABCs
Engaging Apps to Help Kids Learn the Alphabet
These apps all have “lite” versions so you can check them out for free before deciding whether to spend money on upgrading to the full versions. At the moment, the first two are Apple-only, but the third one also has Android and Kindle Fire versions.
ABC Alphabet Phonics
GrasshopperApps.com, free (lite version), iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
This simple app is a great way for young children to learn the alphabet and letter recognition through sight, sound, and touch.
The ABC Song
Kids Games Club, free (lite version) $1.99 (full version), iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
Eight interactive activities and games geared around letter recognition, including the complete “alphabet song” make this an especially fun app for learning the ABCs.
Dr. Seuss’s ABC (itunes) and Dr. Seuss’s ABC (android)
Oceanhouse Media, free (lite version) $3.99 (full version), iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Android, Kindle Fire
This well-designed app is faithful to the original wonderful, whimsical Dr. Seuss book. With options to “Read it Myself”, “Read to Me”, and “Auto Play”, even the youngest child can enjoy this app.
As always, beware of “in-app” purchases and upgrades. While some companies are putting parental in-app “locks” on upgrading to full versions or buying “in-app”, unfortunately, it’ still too easy to inadvertently buy something.
And if you have a favorite ABC app that your child enjoys, we’d love to hear about it!

My daughter loves Endless Alphabet. It’s free with sponsorship messages, but for $.99 you can remove the ads.
