Pay Tribute to a Namesake at Sea

Honor the U.S. Navy’s Newest 25-Ton Amphibious Transport

The Plaza Branch Library & Arlington Shop now offers Caps, t-shirts and accessories featuring the USS Arlington.

Commissioned April 6, the USS Arlington (LPD 24) set sail bearing the name of the Pentagon’s home, one of three sister ships commemorating the sites of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

The Arlington Shop at 2100 Clarendon Blvd. carries a number of USS Arlington items, with all revenue going to support creation of a Sept. 11 tribute room aboard the vessel.

The Plaza Branch Library & Arlington Shop is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m, and closed weekends.

    I served on this type of ship (U.S.S. Casa Grande-LSD-13) when in the U.S. Navy and would like to know if there are any plans to bring the ship to Arlington, Alexandria or Washington, D.C. so we can see it and go aboard for a tour. I would love to see how much different it is from my ship.

      Hello Jim,

      We’ve heard that the Potomac is not deep enough to permit a close-to-home visit by the USS Arlington. This might explain why the recent ceremony was in Norfolk.
