Eight Arms, 25 Tunes + More to Hold You

It was 50 years ago today the Beatles played their first-ever concert on this side of the Atlantic.

The location, in the fresh aftermath of an East Coast snowstorm: The Coliseum on Third Street N.E., Washington, D.C., a quick Metro ride from Arlington if Metro had existed back then.

Here now is your custom 50th anniversary Spotify playlist of personal fab faves, including a few surprising, memorable covers.

Great list! I like that covers were included! I forgot about The Smithereens cover — that one was a good one. The Beatles are a true classic. Can’t believe how much time has passed! Hope the next generation enjoy then asuch as we did/do!

My dad played The Beatles for us a lot when I was a kid. Decided that my first song on guitar would be Hey Jude. My personal favorite cover was Thompson Twins “Revolution”. My rebellious phase. ;-)

This is great, thank you for posting! I was at Uline arena last night which was cool; although I have to say one really had to use one’s imagination to picture what the interior scene was like 50 years ago i.e. given the current state of the place. Frankly, I wish Douglas Jemal would simply redevelop it as a concert venue – I think it could be lucrative given its location, etc. Lastly, any list of notable Beatles covers should really include this one of “Don’t Let me Down”:
