Can I return my books when the library is closed?

Every Arlington Public Library location has a book and media return drop that can be used after hours.

Can I return my books at another library location?

Yes, materials may be returned to any Arlington Public Library location, regardless of where they were borrowed. Arlington Public Library materials should not be returned to libraries in other jurisdictions.

Does my library card expire?

Library cards are valid for a two-year period, and must be renewed in person at the library. You may be asked to provide photo identification and proof of address.

How can I recommend that the library purchase a book I think should be in its collection?

Recommend titles with our online suggestion form.

I have written a book. Can I donate a copy to the library?

The Library invites all authors to recommend published work for our collection. When a submission does not meet criteria for inclusion in the our general circulating collection, Arlington residents may submit a copy of their own work for consideration in the Arlington Author Program.

Does the library have public-school textbooks?

No, we no longer carry text books.

When is the next Arlington Library book sale?

The Friends of the Arlington Public Library sponsor semiannual book sales in the parking garage at Central Library. These weekend sales usually take place in April and October.

May I make a contribution to commemorate a loved one who always enjoyed the library?

Does the library accept book donations?

Does the library have tax forms? Does it offer tax help?

All Library locations offer basic forms to photocopy or download from the internet via public computers at $.15/page.  Free Tax Assistance is provided by local volunteer organizations during tax season at the library.

Does the library have a Notary Public?

Some staff at Central Library can provide notary services at no charge.  Notary services may be available Monday-Friday only, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Please call ahead to be sure a notary is on site: 703-228-5990. Members of the public seeking notary services should bring a current (unexpired) government issued photo ID. Notary services are not available on weekends.
