      To allow staff to prepare for the day, we ask Library users not to proceed down the ramp off Quincy Street until the building is officially open for the day.

      Central Library opens at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday and at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

      10:30 am – 11:30 am

      For ages up to a year old.

      No registration required. First come, first served until capacity is reached at 16 babies.

      Lap-sit program for babies and their adults. Includes songs, sign language, nursery rhymes activities and books.

      For ages 25 months to 5 years. No registration required.

      Sign up for a 30-minute one-on-one Library tech assistance appointment.

      Sundays, 7–8:30 p.m. at Central Library

      Wednesdays, 10-11 a.m. at Central library

      Thursdays, 1-3 p.m. at Central Library

      Saturdays, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Central Library

      Register for a 30-minute slot.

      Conversation practice for non-native speakers of English.

      Sessions are free and you may drop in as frequently as you like. 

      No registration required. All levels encouraged to participate. Our purpose is to give people who are learning English a chance to practice speaking English.

       

      We offer four English conversation classes at Central Library, and one at the Columbia Pike Branch Library – view all hours and locations.

       

    7. Discussion: Saturday Stock Talks–Central
      11:30 am – 1:00 pm

      Get together with others who have an interest in investments and the stock market. Exchange ideas, network. Occasional guest speakers invited. No registration required.

       

    8. Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration–Shirlington
      2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

      A program for children and their caregivers

      Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

      Join the Shirlington Branch Library to celebrate the birth of Theodor Geisel, the boy who would become one of the world’s most beloved and well-know children’s authors.

      The afternoon will feature readings from Dr. Seuss’s stories, games, crafts and, of course, a birthday snack.

      Practice your Arabic with new friends and neighbors.

      All levels are welcome, but participants should have some knowledge of the language. Come for a session and see if it works for you.

    3. Sunday Job-seeker Lab–Columbia Pike
      5:00 pm – 9:00 pm

      A weekly lab to make hunting for jobs easier.

      Participants receive:

      • Three-hour uninterrupted computer reservations 
      • Free job-related printing
      • Extra staff /volunteers ready to help with resources and online applications.

      Drop-ins  welcome.

      Take advantage of a selection of job-related books, local job skills course catalogs and local employment center brochures.
