No Overdue Fees February 5-16

Published: February 9, 2010

Due to the recent snowstorms, we’re not charging overdue fees for library items that came due during the storms:

  • All items returned before Wednesday, Feb. 17 will be credited as if they were returned on Friday, Feb. 5, and no overdue charges will be assessed for the days between Feb. 5 and Feb. 16.
  • This offer does not apply to items returned on or after Wednesday, Feb. 17.
  • Any fines accrued before Feb. 5 still apply.
  • Questions? Contact the Central Circulation department at 703-228-5940 or your local branch.
  • Remember that you can renew materials online….rain, sleet or snow.

Please hold on to Library materials that are due or overdue. Drop slots get filled when staff can’t empty them so please don’t attempt to add materials until the Libraries are open.

Does this mean that libraries will be closed until February 16?

Good question. We certainly hope that we won't be closed until next Tuesday, although if the weather continues like this it could happen. What the Feb. 16th date means is that we've created a grace-period for returns, after the storm (hopefully) ends. We know that even if the Library is able to reopen on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, patrons may not be able to get to us until next week.

Could you also hold the holds for a bit longer? I wasn't able to pick mine up and don't want them sent back!

My husband and I have found our librarians and libraries to be terrific. So thank you for your help during this snowstorm and for all else that you do for us!

To answer the last two questions – Central will be open tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 12), from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Give us a call during that time at 703-228-5990, and we'll help you out with your holds / returns.(Previous answer removed due to inaccurate info – it's Friday, so we close at 5 p.m., not 9 p.m.)
