In order to help jump-start our garden and yours, the Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company has generously donated 250 packets of heirloom seed to the Library, including tomatoes, lettuce, kohlrabi, collards, cucumbers, squash, peppers, eggplant, peas, onions, beans, melons and more.
We have also received a donation of approximately 50 packages of seeds from the Goodwin Public Library in Farmington, NH. One of the Goodwin librarians just happens to be the mother of one of Arlington’s librarians, and when she heard that our Arlington Reads 2010 program is focused on food sustainability, she talked to their Gardeners Roundtable group, and they decided to help us out! Some of the Goodwin Library seeds are unusual, specially cultivated seeds like lemon cucumber and imperial star globe artichoke.
We will make these seeds available to patrons – one package per family – when Library staff and volunteers at Central are outside working on the garden – Check for dates and times!
