Arlington Historical Society presents: Black Entrepreneurship in Segregated Arlington

Join us Thursday, Jan, 20, 7:00 p.m. at Central Library for “Black Entrepreneurship in Segregated Arlington County, Virginia,” presented by Nancy Perry, on behalf of the Arlington Historical Society.

Arlington County was segregated since its founding in 1846 until the late 1960s, and black residents were limited to living in three of the County’s 38 census tracts. This exclusion from opportunities outside their own neighborhoods led to a close-knit and self reliant African American community. In her research, Ms. Perry explores the businesses that grew during segregation, and their fate following desegregation.

Nancy Perry serves on the research faculty at George Mason University’s department of geography.

I can't come and I'd like to. Perhaps Nancy Perry has published some/all of her talk in writing or on-line. If so, could the library list some links? Thanks.

Unfortunately, she doesn't seem to have published any related work online yet. If she does, we'll be certain to link to it!
