If your child needs help preparing for the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, we have resources. You can find information about test dates here.
For parents, who are preparing their 3rd graders for the first SOL:
- Kaplan Parent’s Guide to the Virginia SOL: Tests for Grade 3 by Cynthia and Drew Johnson.
For kids, who may who gain confidence in taking standardized tests by first practicing at home, in a relaxed environment:
- Released SOL tests from the Virginia Department of Education cover all subjects and grades tested. The most recent test is from Spring of 2010.
- Learning Express Library – free online with your Arlington Public Library Card – includes reading and math practice tests for 4th and 5th graders, as well as for middle, high school students, and beyond. While these aren’t the SOL tests, they are nonetheless good practice.
But what is the most important strategy for test-taking success? Teachers and administrators say it’s that kids don’t stress over these tests, that they get a good night’s sleep, and eat a healthy breakfast.
