Reduction Woodworking
On exhibit at the Shirlington Branch Library, May 2012
Westen describes her prints as photographic in realization and dreamlike in inspiration. Earning an MFA from American University, Westen devotes her time to reduction woodworking. She carves, inks, and prints the same woodblock numerous times–gradually diminishing the original piece of wood. The end result is a unique, hand-pulled print from a hand-carved work of art.
Come see Westen’s tribute to the landscapes of Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio, as she captures them through her prints.
