Handmade, Dimensionalized Art Works
On exhibit at Central Library, January 2014
Susan Price Gould is a juried exhibiting member of several artist guilds, including the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA), National Collage Society, and Women in the Visual Arts (WITVA).
Artist Statement:
Pen and Ink, water-based media and collage are my preferred media. Creating images of unusual faces, hands, villages, forests, tropical flora, in combination with patterns and other design motifs are favorite themes. Though the images are recognizable they are figments of my imagination usually defying the rules of logic and perspective.
My original drawnings and photographs are the basis of the collage works. An important extension of my collage work is the creation of Artist’s Books. My artist’s books are original, handmade, dimensionalized art works embellished with my original drawings or photographs.
In their open presentation the “pages” (panels) are to be viewed from all sides. Folded shut the works are housed in a matching “slipcase” to resemble a closed “book”. There may be some text included.
My books are included in the collections of the Jaffe Center for Book Arts at Florida Atlantic University and the Bienes Museum of the Book at the Broward County (FL) Main Library.
