Technology Training Class Volunteer Instructors
Teach 2 hour classes on a variety of programs and web applications.
Responsibilities:
- Teach basic programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, as well as Computer Fundamentals (including internet basics).
- Teach how-to classes on topics like website design and Google Drive, and best-practices for using sites like eBay, Craigslist and more.
- Create class handouts when appropriate.
Qualifications:
- Should be highly knowledgeable about the class subject and able to communicate effectively. The individual must be patient and willing to encourage students in their learning.
- Previous teaching experience is not necessary, but instructors for basic classes must be able to teach patrons who have little or no computer experience.
Time:
- Classes are offered in various two-hour time slots, from Monday through Thursday, or Saturday afternoons.
Technology Training Class Assistants
Assist the instructor and students during classes.
Responsibilities:
- Assist students during Technology Training classes who raises their hand or look like they have fallen behind the rest of the class.
Qualifications:
- Should be highly knowledgeable about the class subject and able to communicate effectively. Must be patient and willing to encourage students in their learning.
Time:
- Classes are offered in various two-hour time slots, from Monday through Thursday, or Saturday afternoons.
- Assistant must be available for the entire class as well as 15 minutes before to help with student sign-in.
Computer Help Desk Volunteer (Central Library only)
Detail oriented and customer focused volunteers assist patrons at Library public computers to access email, navigate job sites, scan, print and more.
Responsibilities:
- Staff Computer Help Desk for a regular shift
- Assist patrons signing onto public computers, printing, copying, and scanning
- Help patrons with various issues related to their public computer use
- Assist patrons with directional questions or other Library related questions
Qualifications:
- Speak English clearly enough to communicate with someone about computer problems
- Extensive knowledge of MS Office, Internet, email programs, file management and consumer technology
- Good Customer Service skills
- Prior experience providing technical support is preferred
Time:
- 8 hours per month
- Regular weekly shift preferred
