Nature Backpacks

A Great Way to Explore Virginia's State Parks

Studying nature can be as simple as spending time outside and observing what is happening in the air, on the ground and in waterways. Check Nature Backpack availability in the catalog.

Each Nature Backpack includes:

  • Parking pass for free parking/entrance to all Virginia State Parks (except for Natural Bridge and Southwest Virginia Museum state parks that charge a per-person entry fee)
  • Pocket Naturalist Guides to: Bugs & Slugs, Animal Tracks, Virginia Birds, Mammals, Virginia Trees & Geology
  • Port-A-Bug Field Observation container
  • Dip net for catching fish or butterflies
  • Magnifying lens
  • Big Foot "Leave No Trace" ethics card
  • Activities suggestions
A Nature Backpack from Arlington Public Library is displayed on a table in the library, with bookshelves in the background. The black and gray backpack is surrounded by educational tools and activity guides, including a purple bug net, a portable mesh butterfly habitat, a green Virginia State Parks pass, binoculars, a compass, magnifying glass, tweezers, and various wildlife and trail brochures. A laminated checklist and “Trail Quest” activity sheet are also visible, promoting exploration of Virginia’s state parks.
