Summer Reading 2013
For every student who completes 2013 Summer Reading, the Friends of the Library will donate $1 to the Queens Library Foundation, to help restock their libraries damaged by Hurricane Sandy.
Five branches of the Queens Library in New York City were badly damaged last fall when Hurricane Sandy caused massive flooding, as were many of the communities they serve.
Some of the damaged libraries have reopened, but there is a lot of work still left to do. And the Queens Library’s Mobile Library is currently in service 7 days a week in the hardest hit Rockaways community, which need still need the most help.
Direct donations to help replace Queens Library books and materials can also be made through the Queens Library Foundation.
Sign up for Summer Reading 2013, and help make a difference!

What a heartbreaking picture! I grew up in a rural area in New Jersey and one of my chief pleasures was going with my dad to our little 2 room library with one librarian. I read every fairy tale they had then started reading Charles Dickens, the Brontes and other classics. Is their a fund for the rebuilding of these libraries? Also, do they accept books in good condition?
