Discovering Nature in Unexpected Places…
On exhibit at the Aurora Hills Library, December 2014 – January 2015
Artist Statement
“My paintings celebrate the discovery of nature in unexpected places. Natural forms and elements within cities have the ability to transport us to happier places, either remembered or imagined, and through their study, we gain access to the peace and well-being that comes from nature. My most successful paintings impart this same sense of well-being to the viewer.
I paint water and skies, trees and rocks, birds and flowers, revealed amid buildings and bridges, sailboats and side streets. The combination of the expressive immediacy of watercolor and my unique Yupo paper techniques bring these subjects to life in a way that is both familiar and magical, making for a uniquely accessible transformative experience. Vibrant color use, the magical properties of light, and the fluid play of water on paper work together to infuse even the bleakest scene with hope, revealing a glimpse into a happier tomorrow.”
