Arlington Public Library branch hours (except for Plaza) will expand with the new fiscal year, effective July 5:
- Wednesday Mornings: Columbia Pike, Shirlington and Westover branches will open at 10 a.m. (rather than the current 1 p.m.) and remain open until 9 p.m.
- Thursday Evenings: Aurora Hills, Cherrydale and Glencarlyn branches will remain open until 9 p.m. (rather than the current 6 p.m.). All three branches open at 10 a.m. on Thursdays. The additional hours mean every branch in the Library system (except Plaza) will be open late three evenings per workweek.
- Sunday Evenings: Columbia Pike and Shirlington branches will remain open until 9 p.m. (rather than the current 5 p.m.). The two branches will match Central Library’s Sunday hours. All three libraries open at 1 p.m.
Central Library and the Plaza Branch Library & Arlington Shop will maintain their current hours of operation.
The schedule changes and an increase in materials funding reflect the Fiscal Year 2012 department budget, as approved by the Arlington County Board in April.

I'm so happy about this! Here's what I wrote on my Facebook just now: "Can't tell you how pleased I am to be living in a sane part of the world/country where local government works and people share common sense values."—Nicholas G. on Columbia Pike at Taylor St

Thank you so much, Arlington, for investing wisely in our libraries. Many would agree with me: it's where I'd like my tax dollars spent! Librarians are my heroes.

This is great — scaled back library hours has been a real blow for our family, and I'm glad to see them expand again – at least in the evening.Thank you for giving us better access to an important county resource.
