Long Branch, Nottingham Students Chose Mock-Caldecott Winners

Here are more results from our “mock” Caldecott committees:

Long Branch Elementary School:

  • Caldecott Winner: Grandpa Green by Lane Smith
  • Caldecott honors: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, illustrated by Jerry Pinkney; Little White Rabbit by Kevin Henkes; and Me…Jane by Patrick McDonnell.

Nottingham Elementary School:

  • Caldecott Winner: Blackout by John Rocco
  • Caldecott honors:  Queen of the Falls by Chris Van Allsburg; Stars by Mary Lyn Ray, illustrated by Marla Frazee

Mock-Caldecott votes so far:

  • Perfect Square – 1 vote
  • A Nations’s Hope: The Story of Boxing Legend Joe Lewis – 1 vote
  • Heart and Soul: The Story of America and African Americans – 1 vote
  • Blackout – 2 votes
  • Hoorah for Amanda and Her Alligator – 1 vote
  • If Rocks Could Sing – 1 vote
  • I Want My Hat Back – 1 vote
  • Bone Dog – 1 vote

The official Caldecott Award will be announced on Monday, Jan. 23, along with many other youth media awards.  Stay tuned for more mock-Caldecott winners, and the actual results!
