Last fall Central Library, the Cherrydale Branch Library, the Shirlington Branch Library and the Westover Branch Library set out donations jars to collect loose change for the Wells Memorial Library in Upper Jay, NY, which lost most of its children’s collection in flooding after Hurricane Irene.
When the contents of our donation jars were counted at the end of December, we had raised $441.18!
Library staff then decided to add their own contributions, and in January the Friends of the Library used our community’s donations to send the Wells Memorial Library a check for $500.
This month, we received a lovely thank you note from the Wells Memorial Library staff:
To the Arlington Public Library,
On behalf of the Wells Memorial Library, we would like to thank you for your generous donation collected from those in your community. We finally reopened 5 months after the flood and would not have been able to do this if it weren’t for all the support nationwide. Thank you!
