A Great Start to Our New Gardening Series
Around 25 people attended the first Sowing Good Seeds program this week at the Westover Branch Library.
The evening included discussion and demonstrations about how to grow what you want to eat, what to plant when, how to plant raised and container gardens, and how to make an easy kitchen compost bin. Anne Augsterfer, a Master Food Volunteer, talked about using the Square Foot Gardening method, then gave the group a tour of Westover’s gardens, including a new Peter Rabbit garden that will be incorporated into this year’s Summer Reading Program.
Much of the food grown in the Westover gardens will be distributed to the community, and delivered to Arlington Food Assistance Center.
