Better Than A Food Fight
On Monday night, two dozen teens from all over the county came to Cherrydale Branch Library for Cupcake Wars.
Despite popular belief, this was not a cupcake-based food fight – it was competitive cupcake decorating:
How did it work? Cherrydale librarians and teens wrote themes on slips of paper, which were placed in a cup. Then everyone was given a cupcake and a theme was drawn from the cup – the first one was Outer Space. The teens had 5 minutes to create a masterpiece using frosting, food coloring, and candy, and then presented and explained their cupcake. The winner was chosen by applause, and then everyone ate their creations.
Due to a cupcake shortage, the second round required partner work. So in order to foster collaboration, they were given 12 minutes to come up with their Meadow-themed cupcake:
The teens also gave a big thank you to the Friends of the Arlington Library for their support of Summer Reading:
Upcoming Cherrydale Teen programs include:
- Summertime Craft Time – July 20 at 2 p.m. and August 5 at 7 p.m.
- Button Gluttons – August 3 at 2 p.m.
