The Affordable Care Act, frequently referred to as “Obamacare” (even by the White House), is already taking effect and more features kick in soon.
The Act was signed into law by President Obama in March 2010. The Library continues to collect resource materials on the subject.
Open enrollment in the health insurance marketplace for individuals and small businesses begins Oct. 1. Coverage begins Jan. 1. Enrollment closes March 31, 2014.
Many answers to questions about the ACA can be found on the www.healthcare.gov website. A toll-free line, 800-318-2596, has also been established.
As a partner in “Enroll Virginia!” the non-profit law firm Legal Services of Northern Virginia is currently hiring and training “navigators” to help residents in the area learn about their insurance options and work through the application process.
Rep. James Moran will be hosting an “Affordable Care Act Forum,” featuring an expert panel, in Alexandria on Monday, Sept. 16.
Del. Patrick Hope will host a program, “Understanding the Health Insurance Marketplace in Virginia,” at Central Library on Saturday, Sept. 21.
