The question: How many Arlington Public Library cards fit into an old Mary Jane candy jar?
We received plenty of guesses for our National Library Card Sign-Up Month contest, ranging from 38 to 920 cards. The closest estimation came from Library fan Hina, who was just a bit short with 363 cards.
For her efforts, Hina receives an array of fabulous prizes from the Arlington Shop at the Plaza Branch Library, along with a year’s supply of sporks from our pals at AIRE. Really. She now has many reusable sporks. Thanks for playing Hina and all our runners-up!
Fun fact: The candy jar was designed to hold 240 Mary Janes candies but it held almost twice as many Library cards. Researchers say this proves that your Library card is much, much better than nutritionless sugary treats that can trigger peanut allergies and rip the fillings from your teeth.
In fact, your Library card is just about the best thing around, any month of the year.
It’s absolutely free–and all you need is one.
Special thanks to Library volunteer Annie for actually counting all those cards.
