The District of Columbia, Wine and Beer
On Exhibit at Shirlington Branch Library, December 2014 – January 2015
Artist Statement:
“This series of paintings illustrates my interest in Latin American expressionism and focuses on two main themes: Washington DC and Wine & Beer.
When I paint, I take images from real life – in this case images of the Capital city and surroundings – and translate them into my personal vision. Other times I am inspired by people and their cultures. The results I look for are new images without a necessary correlation to reality. Sometimes they are nonfigurative representations; sometimes they are simply distortions of perception.
Uruguayan masters such as Carlos Paez Vilaró and Joaquín Torres García are my sources of inspiration. I work mainly with acrylic and ink on solid bleached board or canvas.”
