McKinley Night's “Read for the Win” at Westover

Published: June 24, 2016

Mckinley Night 2016

On June 8, the Westover Branch Library hosted 600 McKinley Elementary students and parents for our annual McKinley Night.

Westover librarians registered 236 students for Summer Reading, and made 45 new library cards.

In keeping with Summer Reading 2016’s “Read for the Win” theme, the kids also played a variety of sports themed literary games. The highlights included:

  • How many Harry Potter books can you Jump? – Kids competed to see how far they could jump on a runway lined with the Harry Potter books.
  • Olympic Rings Book Genre Relay – Book relay where kids sorted books into 5 different genres.
  • Outdoor Read & Move Path and Hula Hoop Rings.
  • Book Trivia Baseball Challenge – Beanbags were moved around a baseball diamond each time “pitch” questions were answered correctly.

In addition, second graders presented video Book Trailers in our small meeting room, and many people participated in the very popular book swap held in the large meeting room.

It was a fun night, and a great way to kick off Summer Reading!
