Vote for Your Favorite Bookmark Designs

Post Published: October 19, 2026

To mark the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, Arlington Public Library has celebrated the theme "Libraries, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" through a yearlong Arlington 250 series.

We invited our community to create a bookmark design that explores this moment in our nation—and the role that libraries have played in it from the beginning. Now, we invite you to vote for your 3 favorite designs to help us choose the winners!

Winning entries will be professionally printed and distributed at all library locations in early December.

Vote for your 3 favorite bookmark designs by Sunday, Nov. 1.

A statue of liberty raises her torch and a book with an American flag, hearts and yellow sparkles in the background.
A worm reads from a book titled "250" in front of red and blue fireworks. Cursive text reads "We are free to read! I believe I can read!"
Bubble text reads "Reading has a meaning! Arlington Library." The design includes a heart with an American flag pattern, books titled "Big Nate," "Wings of Fire," and "The Baby-Sitters Club," and the earth with rainbow stick figures holding hands all around it.
Stripes from an American flag at the top repeat in lines across the bookmark and form shelves for books to stand on.
A cracked liberty bell ornamented with blue stars on either side of its yoke. Text reads "Let books ring."
A round, bespectacled old person with a moustache says "I've been reading this book for 250 years!" in a speech bubble, with red, gray, and blue fireworks in the background.
A cat and frog sit reading together with mugs of hot chocolate under text that reads "Cozy up and read a book!"

Text reads "America's 250th," ornamenting a banner above a Washington Monument made from books and a large book laying spine-up that leads toward it.
Black and white art of a woman with braided hair reading from a book that expels a burst of light, illuminating the woman's smiling face.

A colorful stack of books with birthday cake candles extending from either side, and numbered "250" candles at the top.
Vertical numbers read "250" in red, white and blue with drawings of people reading in different poses in and around the numbers. The border reads "Libraries, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" as well as the names of all Arlington Public Library locations.
