For the 2026-2027 fall/winter exhibitions, the Art in Public Libraries' Art Incubator program is showcasing the work of eight DMV-area artists working in a variety of mediums, including photography, painting, drawing, collage and mixed media.
Featured artists include Elizabeth Bloom, Priyadarshini & Natalie Gandhi, Cindy Kane, Derek Ronald, Kelsin Hernandez Pego, Miriam Cutelis and Anne Langford.
Themes of solitude and belonging, both in urban and nature settings, are found in several of the exhibitions on display. "Parisian Sunday" by illustrator Elizabeth Bloom depicts a female figure reading alone set against an urban backdrop, while people and birds appear within monochromatic beach landscapes in the collaborative painting series "A Peace of the Sea" by Natalie and Priyadarshini Gandhi. Photographer Derek Ronald’s black-and-white work captures the passage of time, isolation in the modern world and the fleeting nature of urban environments.
Themes of transition and the passage of time are explored in the artworks of Kelsin Hernandez Pego and Miriam Cutelis at Shirlington and Glencarlyn Libraries. In contrast, photographers Cindy Kane and Anne Langford use close-ups and portraiture to highlight connections between people and the natural world.
The exhibitions are on view at seven library locations from October, 2026 through mid-January, 2027.
