Guidelines for Using Archival Materials
Research Room Rules
Material from the Community Archives does not circulate and must be used in the Research Room. Please exercise care and good judgement in handling collection material.
- No food or drink is allowed in the Research Room.
- Use pencils only.
- Use only one box and one folder at a time.
- Maintain the filing order of the materials within each file and box.
- Do not trace or rub any portion of the materials within each map, photograph or document.
- Use gloves for handling original photographs not protected in mylar sleeves. White cotton gloves will be provided by the staff.
- Take precise notes. Include the collection name, box number and folder number of the material you are using, or it may be difficult to find them again if you need to refer to them later.
Reproduction
- High-quality scans of materials are done by staff upon request.
- Up to 10 free scans of images in the collection (excluding very fragile and/or oversized images as well as images in an unusual format). Additional images are $10 per scan.
- Patron-owned scanners are prohibited. Photos with a phone may be taken of documents but not of photographs.
Publication
- Patrons are responsible for obtaining any necessary copyright interest and/or literary rights from the owner/donors/heirs pursuant to publishing any work which cites, reproduces or interprets non-published materials.
- The library will not assume responsibility for infringement or libel.
- All published works, research papers and exhibits that are based on, have reproductions of or have been interpreted from the Charlie Clark Center for Local History’s non-published holdings must give credit to: “Charlie Clark Center for Local History, Arlington Public Library."
