Donate Your Eclipse Glasses at the Library

Post Published: August 25, 2017

We hope you enjoyed the Great American Solar Eclipse!

3 pairs of solar eclipse viewing glasses

We also hope that the solar eclipse viewing glasses distributed by the Library – and many other local organizations – were a positive part of your experience.

Now we encourage you to share the experience.

It is estimated that this solar eclipse was the most viewed eclipse in history, which means that an unprecedented number of solar eclipse viewing glasses were manufactured.  To help prevent them from becoming lost or thrown away, all Arlington Public Library locations are collecting used solar eclipse viewing glasses for Astronomers Without Borders. These glasses will be sent to schools in South America and Asia, to be used in 2019 when eclipses will cross those continents.

So if you still have your solar eclipse glasses, take them to your library branch between now and September 30, and drop them off in our designated Solar Eclipse Viewing Glasses Donation Boxes.

And spread the word to your friends, family, and neighbors – together we can give these eclipse glasses a second life.
