There are 100,000 reasons to celebrate!
Arlington Public Library has surpassed 100,000 library cardholders in 2026. This significant achievement is thanks to all 100,835* of our active cardholders.
"This landmark milestone is incredibly gratifying," said Library Director Diane Kresh. "In 2022, we saw a decline of 20,000 active users due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Just four years later, we've not only recovered but exceeded our expectations, building a community of library patrons of unprecedented size."
Library services and collections empower over 100,000 library cardholders, reaching 78,000 households across every neighborhood in Arlington County—nearly half of Arlington County's entire population.
In the 2026 Resident Satisfaction Survey for Arlington County, respondents reported an 89.4% satisfaction rate with Arlington Public Library. Residents wrote, "Libraries are critical to the community," and "[the] Charlie Clark Center for Local History is a treasure."
Libraries are necessary because they provide free access to information, programs, services and third spaces. Arlington Public Library is committed to championing the power of stories and cultivating an inclusive community for everyone.
