Your Annual 2014 “Too Cool for Yule Blog” Mix

Post Published: December 4, 2014

bird house in snow

This “Frozen” time of the year we bring you good cheer…
And queued a set of tunes
you’re just longing to hear.

There are songs to make you happy
and songs to make you dance.
Each lovingly selected by mood
or happenstance.

An unusual mix of carols and hits
We searched across genres to find out what fits.
You’ll find Elvis and Benny, Sufjan (Sufjan?)
and Kay.
We’ve made it easy — you just hit play.

Some pickin’, some new wavin’,
some ballading, some strumming
A swell bunch of cançons traditionals
to get you all humming.

In this season of darkness, remember the light,
that shines bright within each of us and holds back the night.

From our “house” to your house,
we wish you the best.

And thank you for being our
Most Honored Guests.

What a fun list! Hahaha, love the bit about Frozen! Diana Krall is a must! And much appreciated that you included Chanukah songs too. A festive season to you and the library staff!

Many thanks, Shawna. We had fun putting the list together. And how could we not include “Frozen?” Every child I know can not only sing it, they can perform all the “actions”, too. Happy season to your and yours.

Wow, brings back some memories! Dr. Teeth is a good one! I remember sitting in my parents living room watching that one. The photos are a nice touch.

Me again….forgot the best of the past 20 years…..the Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart duet entitled “Can I interest you in Hanukkah?” from 2008. It was posted at http://www.vimeo.com/2488364. Don’t know if the link still works…..

    Hello Diane Kresh!
Thank you for the great list of Christmas music. Will check out Smokey Robinson immediately. Am in a Motown phase.
Have you heard Nick Lowe’s Quality Street? Got the CD yesterday. Christmas Can’t Be Far Away, A Dollar Short of Happy…? Really nice. P.S. He’ll be at the Birchmere in a few days I think. The closest place for me to see him was Mnpls, which was too far away on a week night. Best wishes to you always! Happy Holidays. Teresa

Came to renew a movie. Saw this post.
    Bluegrass does Christmas right.
    Mac Wiseman’s Christmas Time’s A Comin. He’s from Virginia.
Reno & Smiley’s Frosty. The best.

      Hello Raymond:

What great additions to my holiday music collection. Reno & Smiley and Mac Wiseman are both new to me although I know Emmylou Harris’s cover of “Christmas time’s a comin'” from her “Light in the Stable” album (still one of my all time favorites). Thanks for listening, thanks for commenting and most of all, thanks for supporting Arlington Public library. Wishing you and yours the best of the season.
