Win a Copy of "Damnation Island" by Stacy Horn

About "Damnation Island: Poor, Sick, Mad and Criminal in 19th Century New York"
Damnation Island is a bleak yet gripping look at life on Blackwell Island in the 19th century. The island housed NYC’s poor, insane, and criminal in close proximity. The facilities often used incarcerated inmates to act as nurse to the island’s most vulnerable.
Horn interweaves horrendous stories of mistreatment and misdiagnoses with the valiant efforts of activists and journalists such as Nellie Bly. This is a macabre depiction of the realities of 19th century institutional life in NYC.

I gave my children “Peace is Every Step” by Thich Nhat Hanh. I had heard it as an audio book and it was so peaceful and meaningful I wanted to share. I do not tend to buy books because I love the library so much, but I even bought a copy for myself.
I gave my sister and her one-year-old a copy of Journey by Aaron Becker. My family has been utterly transfixed by this wordless story. The illustrations are beautiful, the narrative is moving, and the world is captivating. I’m personally obsessed with the story.
News of the World – loved this book so much that I read it twice in two weeks.
She Persisted by Chelsea Clinton
Furiously Happy, by Jenny Lawson
One of the last books I gave as a gift was: Furriously Happy: A Funny Book about Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson. A great read about a personal account of struggles with mental health.
Love a book give away. Last book I gave as a gift was What Happened by Hillary Rodham Clinton. I gave it to my daughter who is running for state delegate in Connecticut.
I gave my brother Lincoln in the Bardo and Illuminae as birthday gifts.
When my friend Claire decided to leave the DC area in search for herself, I gave her The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I thought she needed a bit of inspiration.
Moo; a novel to my best friends 13 year old daughter. 😊
I bought two copies of Mama Do You Love Me, one for each of two friends having new daughters.
