All library locations offer free public computers and free Wifi.
Public Computer Reservations
- An Arlington library card is required for computer use.
- Visitors not eligible for a library card can be issued a 90-day computer card at the library.
- All reservations must be made in-person at the library.
- You may only have one session or reservation at a time, per day.
- You may reserve a session up to 7 days in advance.
- Library accounts that have been submitted to collections cannot borrow, renew, or place holds on materials, log in to premium sites or use public computer stations.
Time Limits
- Session lengths for regular and research computers are 30 minutes.
- Usage is limited to 180 minutes per person, per day
- A missed reservation counts toward the 180 minute limit.
Hardware & Software
- All computers have USB ports, CD-RW/DVD drive, and 2 headphone jacks. You may purchase earbud-style headphones from the library for $1.00.
- All computers have Internet access via Microsoft Edge and Firefox browsers.
- All computers have Windows 10 (64-bit version), with Adobe Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint
Scanners, Microfilm Reader & Design Station
- Central, Aurora Hills, Shirlington and Westover Libraries have scanners for public use.
- All Library locations have a photocopier with scan USB capability.
- Central Library has a microfilm reader on the 2nd floor, and in the Center for Local History on the 1st floor.
- CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE: Central Library has a Design Station with Adobe creative suite and additional software.
External Storage Devices
- You may save to CD, or USB memory stick.
- You may purchase a USB memory stick for $5.00.
Printing from a Library Computer
- Black-and-white is $.15 per page.
- Color printing is $1.00 per page.
- Pay with cash or credit card.
- Maximum payment at one time is $20.00.
At this time, Wi-Fi printing is not available at the Library.
Assistance
- Library Staff can help start programs and access the Internet, but cannot provide tutoring or hands-on assistance.
- One-on-one tech-tutoring is available by appointment at multiple locations.
Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities
- All computers have Magnifier software as part of the Windows operating system (Start > Programs > Accessories > Accessibility).
- CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE: Central Library and the Columbia Pike Branch each have one workstation equipped with screen reader software, ZoomText magnifying software, and a larger monitor, at ADA tables for wheelchair access. The Aurora Hills, Glencarlyn, Shirlington and Westover branches each have one ZoomTEXT ADA wheelchair accessible workstation. Qualified users can reserve ZoomTEXT workstations in advance by calling their preferred library location.
